Join us for a conversation with Thomas Nechyba, professor of Economics and Public Policy and director of the Duke Social Science Research Institute. Ed Balleisen, historian and Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Studies, will interview Dr. Nechyba. The conversation will focus on Nechyba’s role in building interdisciplinary intellectual communities at Duke, through such key developments as the move of SSRI to Gross Hall, the invention of Bass Connections, and the creation of a Master program in Interdisciplinary Data Science (MIDS).

This event is primarily intended for area companies, but interested Duke students are welcome. U.S. technology and services in energy and environment are poised for incredible growth opportunities in India, but face regulatory hurdles and challenges in implementation and enforcement. Come learn how your company can take advantage of these opportunities while managing the potential pitfalls. Speakers include Sham Shamsudeen (Energy Specialist, US Embassy, India); Vikram Rao (Advisor to the Chief Operating Officer, RTI International & Executive Director, Research Triangle Energy Consortium); and other representatives from the US Department of Commerce, Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster, and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina.

Join us for a special Bass Connections event featuring research stories from four 2018-19 project teams. Students will share research findings, tools and applications in development, lessons from the field and experiences doing community-engaged research with local and international partners. This event is part of Duke at Home in the World, a month-long series of events highlighting how Duke students, faculty and staff are engaged with communities all over the world.

The business schools of UNC, NC State University, and Duke University co-sponsor this one-day conference each year.
