Dr. Sara Vakhshouri will be speaking on "Energy Security and the New Geopolitics of Energy," in conversation with Energy Initiative director Dr. Brian Murray, on Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m. in Sanford 04. All are welcome to attend this talk. 

Duke students can also register to attend a Power Lunch with Dr. Vakshouri earlier in the day day. 

Dr. Vakhshouri is the founder and president of SVB Energy International, a strategic energy consulting firm with offices in Washington DC and Dubai. Dr. Vakhshouri has over two decades of experience working in the energy industry with an extensive experience in global energy market studies, energy strategy, energy security and geopolitical risk. 

Dr. Vakhshouri has been based in Washington DC since 2009 where she has advised US, European, Indian and GCC governments, investment banks, financial institutions, law firms and international corporations on the energy markets, trading and pricing, the geopolitics of energy, energy strategy and security, and investment patterns. She has also advised and worked with multiple energy think tanks and organizations such as the International Energy Agency (IEA), Energy Information Administration (EIA), Oxford Energy Institute, Harvard University's Kennedy School, Energy Economics and Security Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) & the Atlantic Council's Global Energy Center. She is also professor of Energy Security at the Institute of World Politics.

She has published articles in numerous journals including The Economist, Middle East Economic Survey, and Oil and Gas Journal. Dr. Vakhshouri has been a keynote speaker at multiple energy conferences including the World Energy Congress, Chatham House, Platts Oil and Middle East Conferences, and the LNG Global Congress. She is frequently quoted and has appeared on Bloomberg, BBC, The Financial Times, Reuters, Platts, The Financial Post, The Wall Street Journal, Energy Intelligence, and Voice of America. She is the author of The Marketing and Sale of Iranian Export Crude Oil since the Islamic Revolution and has contributed chapters in different books and energy reports including World Energy Outlook 2018 (International Energy Agency).

Dr. Vakhshouri has a PhD in energy security and Middle Eastern studies. She has an MA in business management (International Marketing) and another MA in International Relations. Dr. Vakhshouri was also Senior Energy Fellow at the Atlantic Council and at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. She has also experience of working in both public and private sectors of the Iranian energy industry.
