About Ben Abram

Ben Abram ('07) currently serves as Modern Energy Group’s Managing Partner. Ben started his career as a venture capital analyst, sourcing and evaluating clean energy companies in the 2007 “Clean Tech 1.0” era, on Sand Hill Road in Menlo Park, California. After serving on the board of two of the firm’s portfolio companies, he left the venture capital field in search of a business model that would more directly accelerate energy efficiency adoption through alternate financing. In 2013, Ben acquired what has since become Modern Energy’s flagship platform, American Efficient. In 2016 Ben combined his holdings in American Efficient with those of his longtime friend Mark Laabs, who had co-founded Faro Energy, to form Modern Energy Group together. The private investors who had backed each of those companies continued to fund Modern Energy Group’s ongoing expansion, and today the combined businesses under the group umbrella have more than one hundred full-time employees. In addition to his work at Modern Energy, Ben is a father of an infant, keeps the Sabbath, collects street art, and with his wife’s help tithes his income to charity.

This event is organized by the Duke University Energy Initiative and Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, which are merging.
